The CDLP has a mentor program in which Campus Directors in Training are paired with more experienced CDITs. These mentors advise us and serve as examples as we advance through the various functional training rotations. The mentor/mentee starts with a formal agreement that outlines the roles and expectations of both the mentor and mentee. This includes details such as when we will meet (how frequently/how long) and what are the objectives of the professional relationship.
I was placed with a mentor within the first week of my career with Strayer University. During this time my mentor has provided me with valuable information. This includes providing professional knowledge and professional expertise about my chosen profession. I have benefited greatly from being part of this mentoring relationship.
In order to make the most of a mentoring relationship, both mentor/mentee should share successes and best practices. Ensure that your mentor knows how valuable their time and insight is.
Remember that mentoring is about sharing knowledge and expertise in a way that benefits both the mentor and mentee, which helps to build and strengthen the CDLP as a whole. Thanks to my mentor!
