What is the purpose of the Campus Director Leadership Program?
The Campus Director Leadership Program (CDLP) identifies experienced professionals and provides them the opportunity to join the Strayer family as a leader in the education industry. The program ultimately offers Campus Directors In-Training (CDITs) the necessary experience and training to succeed as a Strayer Campus Director.
Is this a job or a graduate program?
While you get the benefit of continuing to learn while growing your business skills, the Campus Director Leadership Program is a full-time position with a competitive annual salary. CDITs also receive full health benefits, 401k matching, and a 90 percent tuition discount at Strayer University.
How long is the program?
The program lasts approximately 9 to 18 months, with Campus Directors In-Training completing rotations in admissions, student support, business office, and management. Upon successful completion of these rotations, you will have the necessary expertise to move into a permanent leadership position at a Strayer campus as a Campus Director.
What will I learn as a Campus Director In-Training?
As a Campus Director In-Training, you will learn the following during your rotations:
- Student retention initiatives
- New student recruitment activities
- Overall campus enrollment
- Campus-level fiscal and budgetary processes
- Business office and associated collection activities
- Overall appearance and administration operations of the campus
Along with the above responsibilities, CDITs will also have structured activities throughout the Campus Director Leadership Program (such as meetings within the workgroup and supplemental classroom training sessions).
What do you look for in a person who is applying to the CDLP?
Strayer is looking for the best and brightest to lead its future. The program only admits a small number of participants each year, so we expect certain qualities from those applying. An applicant should have raw leadership talent, intellectual horsepower, and humility. They should also be ambitious and motivated with a high amount of energy. Candidates are also expected to possess entrepreneurial and interpersonal skills. Due to the program’s intensive and comprehensive training process, the applicant should also have a passion for higher education.
Where is Strayer University located?
Strayer University currently operates over 90 campuses in 20 states and Washington, D.C. There is also an online or global campus, headquartered in northern Virginia. Corporate headquarters are in Herndon, VA in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Please visit http://www.strayer.edu/campus_finder to view a map of our locations.
Do Campus Directors In-Training get to choose where they’re placed?
While Campus Directors In-Training can request a campus or area of the country for placement, not everyone can be accommodated. Geographic flexibility and mobility is a key component for program acceptance.
When I become a Campus Director, what are the next career prospects?
A new Campus Director will usually start working at a smaller campus and move to bigger campuses as they excel in their career. This means that flexibility and mobility can definitely help with career advancement, but are not necessary to continue working at Strayer University. As you advance and control bigger campuses with more complex issues, you could be presented with the opportunity of becoming a Regional Director or an opportunity within the corporate domain of Strayer. Once you’re in the Strayer family, there is a lot of upward movement.
With the current economic turmoil, what is the state of the education industry?
While many other industries are seeing a decline, the education market continues to grow. Education is the second largest industry in the United States. More than ever, individuals are realizing the importance of a quality education and its positive effects on job security. As a result, universities that service non-traditional students are expanding to meet the demands of the growing student population.
What is the working environment at Strayer University?
As an accredited university catering to the non-traditional student, Strayer employees enjoy the opportunity to work in a dynamic, diverse and stable work environment. As any Strayer employee will attest, Strayer University is a very special place to work. Employees enjoy daily interaction with prospective and current students as well as interaction between campus departments.
Do I actually get to make a difference in students’ lives?
Time and time again you will see how your work is making a difference in the lives of individuals. Whether helping a prospective student navigate financial aid, working hands-on with a current student to help them with their coursework, or celebrating the job success of a recent graduate, you will see daily the positive impact you are having on others. Each function of a campus directly supports and interacts with students. After completing the CDLP we are sure you will have your own myriad of success stories to share with friends and family.
What is the program’s start date?
The CDLP operates in groups, or cohorts. Each year, one or two cohorts begin the program. An orientation is held when each cohort starts. There is a lot of interaction between cohorts, from a formal mentoring program to informal phone conversations.
